ABOUT THE ARTIST
Elizabeth’s story reflects a deep 30-year commitment to her art and her continual evolution as an artist, driven by both her heritage and her experiences.
A Vancouver-born American painter, Elizabeth has been surrounded by creativity her entire life, with family members skilled in Japanese ceramics, classic wooden yacht design, culinary arts, photography, painting, sculpture, and poetry.
While in Connecticut, Elizabeth studied at Silvermine Art and The Art Students League of New York. She illustrated two children’s books, including I’m Mixed!, which received a 2018 Skipping Stones Honor Award. Her painting Under the Japanese Lilac was acquired by the U.S. National Park Service in 2021. Additionally, her 2024 painting The American College of the Building Arts, Interior won first place and the “Future of Preservation” award from Preserving a Picturesque America. These recent accomplishments highlight the growing resonance and appreciation of her work.
Elizabeth recently expanded her practice by opening a second studio in Charleston, SC. Although she stepped down as lead artist of the Fairfield County Plein Air Painters, she remains an active member of the New York Society of Women Artists. Jonathan Miller Spies’ article “The View From Here: Elizabeth Hasegawa Agresta’s Rainscapes” offers a compelling narrative of how Elizabeth’s background and experiences converge in her paintings, providing viewers with insight into the personal and artistic evolution that defines her work.
